David is traveling by train from Krakow to Prague and they had several unexpected experiences that shows what it is in real life traveling or backpacking Europe.

The comfortable EuroCity Cracovia train transports you from city centre to city centre in seven hours. There is a departure daily but the most convenient and comfortable is the direct night train. Choose from 2nd class seats, couchettes, or sleeping cars with 1-, 2-, or 3-person compartments. Sleeping cars feature individual beds, wash basins, and ample luggage space. You can book a single bed in a Double or Triple compartment, but compartments are gender-specific unless booked entirely. Prices include pillows, bedding, and blankets, with complimentary morning coffee/tea and snacks from the car attendant. Deluxe Double and Single sleeping car compartments offer en-suite showers and WC. Couchettes are available in 4 or 6-bed compartments, always mixed-sex, with inclusive pillows, bedding, and blankets.

Travelling in Germany just got cheaper. The Deutschlandticket is sold as a monthly subscription at a cost of 49 euros per month. The ticket is valid for a calendar month, and is automatically renewed, with payment taken by direct debit from the user’s bank account or by credit card. The subscription can be cancelled by the 10th day of each month. Users wishing to purchase a new subscription for the current month on the 11th day of the month or later must pay for at least the current and the following calendar month.

The Deutschlandticket is sold by participating local transit authorities. It is issued as a digital ticket via mobile apps offered by local transit authorities. It can also be issued on a chip smartcard using the “eTicket Deutschland” standard. Employers can subsidize the ticket for their employees, and university students can upgrade their “Semesterticket” to a Deutschlandticket.

The BahnCard 100, a rail card offered by Deutsche Bahn allowing unlimited travel on its trains, includes a Deutschlandticket at no additional charge.

The Boeing 787, also known as the Dreamliner, is a popular commercial aircraft developed by Boeing. It is a long-range, wide-body twinjet airplane that offers improved fuel efficiency, passenger comfort, and advanced technologies compared to previous aircraft models.

Advanced Technology: The Dreamliner incorporates various technological advancements. It features a modern flight deck with large LCD displays and advanced avionics. The aircraft utilizes fly-by-wire controls, which provide precise and efficient flight control. It also employs noise-reducing technologies to minimize noise pollution during takeoff and landing.

Airline Operators: The Boeing 787 is used by numerous airlines worldwide. Some notable operators include United Airlines, American Airlines, British Airways, Air Canada, All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan Airlines (JAL), and Qatar Airways.

Market Response: The 787 has received positive feedback from both airlines and passengers, with its fuel efficiency and passenger comfort being major highlights. However, the aircraft has also faced some challenges, including delays during its initial production and issues with certain components, such as the lithium-ion batteries (which have since been addressed).

This is an interesting and honest comparison of how new electric a vehicle compares to new gas vehicle when looking at total cost of ownership. It made me thankful for 15 and 20-year-old Toyota’s that are affordable to buy and seem to last forever.
Two years ago, my son bought a 2001 Toyota Camry LE, for $1,400 cash, with 186k on it and it does not burn oil and the AC is still ice-cold. He has not had any accidents with his car so, he pays $68 per month for full coverage. His 4-cylinder Camry LE gets 29 MPG highway mileage. I have pondered the idea that owning an older vehicle (that, has a reputation for lasting forever, cost little enough to purchase without a car loan, and costs less to insure) could possibly be a better deal than owning a new vehicle with car payments and even a new fully electric vehicle as well. I guess one thing that keeps my son’s cost of ownership low is my son and I do DIY maintenance an repairs ourselves. But, I think it is a privilege to be able to afford a new vehicle and new vehicles provide a sense of confidence and security when doing long road trips. So, I’m not putting down buying new. But very reliable used vehicles can be a cost effective path in car ownership.

Driving away from the airport, one can see how amazing this runway is. From the highway, it resembles an elevated city highway perched on a forest of concrete pillars at least 50 metres high. On take-off, there is no soaring climb into the air, just a continuing gentle climb as the wheels leave the ground and the rocky coastline replaces it under the wings.

In the 27 days of Amtrak vacation they will ride the Lake Shore Limited, California Zephyr, Coast Starlight, Southwest Chief, Empire Builder Sunset Limited and the City of New Orleans as well as the Alaska Railroad Glacier Discovery and the Alaska Railroad Denali Star.

The TranzAlpine train is the most popular train journey on the South Island, running between Christchurch and Greymouth. This train takes you through the Southern Alps, offering incredible views of the mountains, valleys, and forests along the way. The journey takes around 5 hours and includes stops for sightseeing, making it a great way to explore the South Island’s natural beauty.

Another popular train journey is the Coastal Pacific, which runs between Christchurch and Picton. This train takes you along the rugged east coast of the South Island, offering views of the Pacific Ocean and the beautiful coastal landscape. The journey takes around 5-6 hours and includes stops for sightseeing, making it a great way to explore the South Island’s coastal towns and attractions.

In celebrating 10 years of IMARC and industry in 2023, we wish to reflect on the progress the industry has made, and the new directions that miners, METS, Governments, and its value chain partners are embarking on to prepare for the future. How the industry will operationalise its Net Zero targets and support the critical minerals’ supply of the future, how it continues to review its commitments to ESG and shared prosperity, and how innovation and collaboration will foster growth and development, are all vital for the industry’s future.
